A distinguished gentleman out for a peaceable afternoon stroll alongside the canal was about to witness what he believed to be an act of pure, selfless heroism.
Just some yards forward of him, an aged man and his younger son have been quietly casting their strains from the stone financial institution. Out of the blue, a loud, violent splash shattered the afternoon silence. The boy had misplaced his footing and plunged immediately into the deep, swirling water.
And not using a single second of hesitation, the outdated man dove in headfirst after the boy. After a short, dramatic wrestle in opposition to the present, the daddy efficiently dragged his shivering son again up onto the grassy financial institution.
Because the gentleman rushed over to supply help, he watched the outdated man instantly hoist the boy the other way up by his ankles, shaking him gently to let the swallowed canal water drain fully out of his lungs.
Deeply moved by the spectacle, the gentleman launched right into a grand, theatrical speech. “Sir, that was one of the noble issues I’ve ever witnessed! To plunge into these treacherous waters on the absolute danger of your personal life to avoid wasting that little one… I congratulate you in your chic bravery and heroic magnanimity!”
The outdated man wiped the muddy water from his face, gave the gentleman an informal grin, and shrugged.
“I don’t know a lot about magnanimity, pal. I simply needed to get the child out of the river. He’s received the reside bait in his pocket.”
